Oikogen

Your family data never leaves your device

Oikogen is a private family tree app. Everything you tell it stays on your own device, and there's no account, so we never see your family's stories, names or tree.

What stays on your device

All of it is kept in your browser's storage for app.oikogen.com on the device you're using. The AI model that reads your messages runs on that device too, and when you speak, your voice is turned into text there as well.

What that means

Family information is some of the most personal data there is, and much of it is about living relatives who never agreed to share it. When a family history company runs into trouble, its customers' data can change hands along with the company. Keeping the data on your device means there's no company database to change hands.

What our hosts see

Like any website, Oikogen has to be delivered to your browser. The app and this website are served by Google Firebase Hosting, and the AI model files by Cloudflare. When your browser fetches the pages and model files, those hosts receive the usual request details: your IP address, your browser type and which files were requested. They may keep these in their logs. None of it includes your family data, which stays on your device.

Sharing with family

To share, you export a file and send it the way you choose. The file holds everything you've told Oikogen, so share it only with people you trust. When a relative imports it, they decide who's who before anything merges.

Who runs Oikogen

Oikogen is run by an independent developer. There's no company behind it yet. Questions about privacy, or anything else: support@oikogen.com.

This website

oikogen.com sets no cookies and has no trackers, analytics or advertising, and it loads nothing from other companies, not even fonts. The app lives at its own address, app.oikogen.com, so this site can never read your tree.

Start with one sentence

Tell it who your grandparents were. That's enough to begin.
